PDL Facilitates a Meeting Between Hoteliers of Chitwan and C-CENTER

PDL Consulting Group in collaboration with C-CENTER organized a roundtable meeting with major hoteliers of Chitwan to discuss the ways of promoting and maximizing Chinese tourism in Nepal. During 2013, 100 million Chinese tourists travelled around the world, out of which a mere 113,173 came to Nepal. Language has been one of the most important factors in limiting the experiences (and hence the very important “word-of-mouth marketing”) of Chinese tourists to understanding the rich culture, beauty, heritage, hospitality and history of Nepal and its diverse citizens. And this is where C-CENTER comes in.

C-CENTER is a premier Chinese business consulting firm based in Nepal that has been working tirelessly to offer language training services and hospitality trainings to Nepal’s various tourism industry stakeholders.  In addition,  C-CENTER also partners with Nepalese hospitality industry entrepreneurs and managers in getting Chinese tourists to their hotels and resorts. In short, C-CENTER provides two key B2B and B2C services: bridging of linguistic and information gap for Nepalese hoteliers, all the while increasing the supply of Chinese tourists via exclusive booking service to the hotels.

PDL was able to pull this meeting together despite the ongoing political turmoil in Nepal. Lack of fuel was of the utmost concern. But thanks to our great network, we were able to mitigate some of the difficulties affecting the mobility and services of entrepreneurs in Chitwan. While some attended the event in person for a round-table talk, others communicated via teleconference. One of the concerns raised by the hoteliers was about the effect of current political issues on the tourism industry. As such, the idea of increasing Chinese tourists in Chitwan proved to be an appealing strategy.

En route to Chitwan, PDL also helped facilitate a business dinner with hoteliers of Pokhara in Oxygen Lounge and Bar, where the attendants followed up on previous meetings held by PDL in Pokhara and discussed ways to move forward.

PDL Organizes a Successful Meet Between Hoteliers in Pokhara and C-Center

PDL Consulting Group organized a highly successful meeting between hoteliers in Pokhara and delegates from C-Center, a Chinese Education and Business Consulting Firm based in Kathmandu. The event was held on September 14, 2015, at Hotel Barahi, a 3-star deluxe hotel situated near the beautiful Fewa Lake. Representatives of over 10 major hotels and resorts, including The Fulbari Resort & Spa, Waterfront Resort, Hotel Da Yatra Courtyard, and Pokhara Grande, participated in the program. Mr. Sam Wood led the C-Center’s team. Mr. Wood’s team caters to high-end Chinese businesspersons and delegates seeking luxury and comfort while in Nepal. C-Center also provides linguistic and cross-cultural consulting services to top hotels across Nepal.

Outbound tourism from China is a growing industry. Almost 100 million Chinese tourists traveled out of the country in 2013. As such, the meeting focused on ways for Nepal’s tourism industry to tap into the market, including marketing and optimizing hotel offerings to cater to the Chinese market.

Mr. Saroj Dhakal, one of PDL’s Founding Partners, hosted the event, while Mr. Sudeep Simkhada, PDL’s CEO/Founding Partner, gave an interactive speech demonstrating PDL’s services. Mr. Deepak Kharel, PDL’s media consultant on loan to Sano Paila (A Little Step), was also present and provided a brief introduction about Sano Paila’s exemplary works.

PDL will be organizing similar events to promote tourism in Nepal. The devastating April and May earthquakes claimed thousands of lives and displaced tens of thousands of people, not to mention the staggering number of physical and emotional injuries sustained. To make things worse, the earthquakes also badly affected Nepal’s tourism industry. PDL, in line with its mission to serve the greater interest of Nepal through betterment of Nepal’s strategically important business sectors, will be providing similar meet and greet B2B and B2C networking events in the future.

PDL and Sano Paila Successfully Organized a Forum in Birgunj on Federalism and Nepal’s New Constitution

PDL and Sano Paila organized a socio-political event in Birgunj on August 8, 2015. The event brought together 6 panelists from 6 different political parties at Hotel Suraj, Birgunj, to discuss various aspects of the preliminary draft of the constitution.  The main issues raised and discussed were about federalism.  Over 200 people showed up for the town hall meeting.  In addition, loudspeakers placed at various strategic locations throughout Birgunj provided live coverage of the program.  A considerable number of people congregated in these venues as well.

The program allowed each of the panelists 5 minutes to deliver their opening statements. Then, Mr. KC Lamichhane, the program’s moderator, asked specific questions to each of the panelists.  Finally, the floor was opened to the audience. This part was a big hit – the audience were fiery and asked probing questions. The questions and comments clearly showed that Nepali people desperately need and want these types of events to happen on a regular basis.

The following panelists participated in the program:

  1. Anil Kumar Jha, Chairman of Nepal Sadbhavana Party
  2. Khimlal Devkota, Chairperson of National Intellectuals Organization of Nepal and UCPN-Maoist leader
  3. Jitendra Singh, Central Member of Tarai-Madhesh Democratic Party (तमलोपा)
  4. Pradip Poudel, Central Member of Nepali Congress
  5. Bhairab Raj Regmi, Treasurer of Rastriya Janamorcha
  6. Yogesh Bhattarai, Secretary of CPN-UML

In addition, Mr. Chandra Kishor Jha, one of Nepal’s leading journalists, and Mr. Jagdish Agrawal, one of Nepal’s leading businessmen, also spoke at the event.

The event was caught on tape and we will be uploading an edited version on YouTube and other online media soon.

The event was covered by national and regional media, including News24 (television channel), Setopati online, and Himalaya Times (Nepali newspaper). Here are some of the links of such coverages –

The program’s success lies in the hard work by our members Mr. Kanchan Jha, Mr. Deepak Kharel and Mr. Saroj Dhakal. PDL will be organizing similar events in the future as well.
